Wheat stripe rust is an important disease in Sichuan Province. In order to analyze the stripe rust resistance and the distribution of disease resistance genes in wheat cultivars of Sichuan Province, stripe rust resistance tests were performed at both seedling and adult plant stages with 63 Sichuan wheat cultivars released since 2017 as materials. The gene based markers of Yr5, Yr7, Yr15, Yr18, Yr27, Yr28, Yr36, Yr46, YrU1 and YrSP as well as linkage molecular markers of Yr17, Yr26 and Yr29 were used to detect resistance genes in these cultivars. A total of 57 out of the 63 wheat cultivars showed intermediate to high stripe rust resistance(infection type, IT=0-6) against CYR34 at seeding stage. All of them had moderate to high stripe rust resistance(IT=1-4) at adult plant stage in the field. Nine Yr genes were detected in different wheat cultivars, while Yr5, Yr27, Yr46 and YrU1 were absent in the tested cultivars. The distribution frequencies of Yr7, Yr17, Yr26 and Yr29 in Sichuan wheat cultivars were more than 50%. Taken together, it was shown that the Sichuan wheat cultivars carry diverse stripe rust resistance genes that provide adequate resistance to stripe rust. The stripe rust resistance genes Yr15, Yr28, and Yr36 from wheat ancestor species have been successfully used in Sichuan wheat breeding. |
