The mutant with branched-spike is an important germplasm for spike development study in barley. Through the EMS mutation on the mature seeds of Baiqin 7 and consecutive self-propagation of these mutated materials for seven generations, nine mutant lines with branched-spike (Ynbs lines) of naked kernel barley were developed successfully. The branched-spike of nine Ynbs lines can be inherited stably, and the degeneration of multiple-spikes on their main spike are showed in different generations. Every main spike of nine Ynbs lines has two to five branched spikes, and 10.53±0.53 to 13.23±0.22 multiple spikes. Each branched-spike contains one to three spike nodes, and each multiple-spike contains ten to fifteen florets. SPSS 19.0 was employed to analyze the phenotype difference among different materials on eight spike traits, such as multi-spike number, floret number, grain number per spike, setting percentage, length of spike stem axes, length of spike, number of spike rachis node,100-grain weight, respectively. The partial correlations between these eight traits of the spike in different materials were calculated, too. The results showed that the phenotypic value of eight spike traits show significant difference between different materials. Of these eight traits, the phenotypic value of three spike traits including number of multi-spike,setting percentage,100-grain weight are lower in nine Ynbs lines than those in mutant parent, but their floret number are all higher than that of mutant parent. All nine Ynbs lines exhibited less multi-spike,more floret, lower setting percentage and lower 100-grain weight. It showed that there are significant partial correlations between branched-spike and number of multi-spike,grain number per spike, length of spike and 100-grain weight, and correlation coefficients are -0.524,0.584,-0.646,0.418,and -0.563,respectively. Nine Ynbs lines show many characteristics including branched-spike,multi-spike degeneration and more spikelets, which can be valuable materials for spike development study in barley. |
